A customer contacted us while looking for a BLDC motor with similar specifications to the motor already used in their electric go-kart.
Instead of developing a completely new motor from the beginning, we first evaluated the existing motor, installation structure and actual operating requirements. Based on the information provided, we recommended our 90 Series BLDC Motor as a replacement solution.
After the sample was completed and tested, the customer found that the new motor delivered better performance in the actual application.
This project is a good example of how an existing BLDC motor platform can be adapted to a specific electric vehicle application.
The Original Application
The motor was used in a compact electric go-kart. The customer already had an existing drive system and was looking for another BLDC motor that could match the application.
For a replacement project like this, motor selection is not only about finding similar voltage and power ratings. The installation space, shaft structure, mounting interface, speed, torque and controller compatibility also need to be considered.
Finding a Suitable BLDC Motor Replacement
The customer initially searched online for a motor with specifications close to the existing unit and found our products during the selection process.
After discussing the application, we did not simply recommend a motor based on power alone. We reviewed the required operating conditions and determined that our 90 Series BLDC Motor platform was a suitable starting point.
Using an existing motor platform also makes it possible to adjust selected specifications without unnecessarily redesigning the entire motor.
Why We Recommended the 90 Series BLDC Motor
The 90 Series BLDC Motor provides a flexible platform for electric mobility and other OEM applications. Depending on the project, electrical and mechanical specifications can be evaluated and customized to match the equipment.
What Matters When Replacing a BLDC Motor?
Two motors with similar voltage and power ratings are not necessarily interchangeable.
For a BLDC motor replacement project, we normally evaluate several factors together:
Electrical Performance
Voltage, power, speed and torque
Mechanical Dimensions
Motor diameter, length and installation space
Shaft Design
Diameter, length, keyway and connection method
Mounting Interface
Flange, mounting holes and installation structure
Wiring & Signals
Phase wires, Hall sensors and connectors
Controller Matching
Voltage, current and control requirements
This is why an existing motor photo, nameplate, drawing or equipment information can often be more useful than simply providing a target wattage.

Sample Testing and Customer Feedback
After confirming the main requirements, a sample motor was prepared for the customer’s evaluation.
The motor was installed and tested in the actual go-kart. According to the customer’s feedback after testing, the performance of our motor was better than the previous motor used in the application.
For us, this is also why sample testing is an important step in customized motor projects. Specifications on paper are important, but the final evaluation should always be based on how the motor performs in the actual equipment.
Other Applications for the 90 Series BLDC Motor
Although this project was for an electric go-kart, the 90 Series platform can also be evaluated for other applications requiring compact size, relatively high power and flexible mechanical customization.
Already have a motor but can't find the same model?
Send us the existing motor model, nameplate, dimensional drawing or application photos. We can use this information as a starting point to evaluate a suitable BLDC motor solution.
